Family Safari Holidays in Kenya

EXPERIENCES

Kenya is a superb destination for adventurous families on safari looking for that ultimate African experience.

The faces of your family glow warmly from the light of the campfire as you retell the stories of the day, reminiscing on the thrills of your African safari; the time you saw the herd of zebra from a hot air balloon, that leopard resting in a tree, the lion pride that followed you back to camp, those elephants that drank confidently from the lodge pool.

Young people can enjoy anything from feeding giraffes at Giraffe Manor and learning rain dances to game drives, balloon safaris and making friends with the local Masai children, not just a fun experience, but an educational one too. With such great wildlife diversity, fantastic guides, fabulous accommodation and easy travel, we can think of few things to beat it!

The Masai people are well known for being fantastic with children and there will be no lack of activities to keep them entertained. From making their own bow and arrows, catching and studying butterflies and joining in a traditional rain dance, to planting trees, learning about the local fauna, tracking animals and riding camels.

Some lodges and camps even provide bush treasure hunts and mini walking safaris just for your young ones, all with English speaking, knowledgeable and fun guides!

A fantastic way for you to spend time together, flick through your safari photos and share your stories alongside crystal waters.

Between July and November, the Great Migration in the Masai Mara means some spectacular wildlife sightings for the entire family as millions of wildebeest and zebra swarm the plains, under the watchful eye of the big cats and crocodiles. But this is not the only time this incredible area is good for wildlife, in fact Kenya has a higher concentration of game than Tanzania throughout the year, and the parks are smaller. Smaller parks means shorter drive times – and less ‘are we there yet?’ from the kids in the back – although it is possible to get from lodge to lodge, and park to park, via light aircraft, eliminating hefty drives altogether. So your only drives will be out on safari as you watch the stories of the Africa savannah unfold before your eyes…
