Journey into a remote and relatively unexplored part of the Arctic, to discover the secrets of the world’s largest National Park – a natural reserve of 375,000 square miles occupying the remote northeastern quarter of Greenland.
On this 11-day expedition you’ll join our expert photography leader, Pie Aerts, and our team of expedition leaders as you discover the vast beauty of Greenland aboard The Explorer.
Where tapered peaks straddle shimmering snow banks, and palettes of colour blanket the skies during the summer months, the world’s largest island offers a feast for the eyes under the polar sun. Sail alongside some of the Arctic’s most colossal icebergs, alongside the spectacular coastline of the Liverpool Alps and through the calm waters of King Oscar Fjord. Entering the world’s largest National Park, cruise these waters in zodiacs to the foot of vertiginous cliffs and unearth the history of long-abandoned Inuit settlements for incredible discoveries of arctic lifestyles. Hike through the valleys, over the fjords, in search of Arctic fox, polar bears, reindeer, and muskox.
Day 1, 18 August 2025: Journey to Greenland
Today you will fly from Reykjavik, Iceland to Constable Pynt in Greenland and board our ship, The Explorer. By flying in we avoid spending a few uncomfortable days at sea and can start exploring right away. Sailing along the rugged and spectacular coastline of the Liverpool Alps.
Days 2 - 3, 19 - 20 August 2025: Carlsberg Fjord or King Oscar Fjord
Our small expedition ship gives us the flexibility to explore anywhere in the region. We have no set itinerary and a vast area to explore. This is not a typical tourist destination and we are unlikely to encounter other ships as we explore.
Day 4, 21 August 2025: Bontkoe Island
Bontkoe Island is rich with Inuit remains. We will visit the historic station and the Myggbukta tundra. At sea, we encounter our first tabular icebergs drifting from the North. There will also be possible sightings of musk oxen and polar bears in this area.
Day 5 - 6, 22 - 23 August 2025: Sabine, Shannon & Pendulum Islands
We sail towards the stunning iceberg fields of Sabine, Shannon, and Pendulum Islands, famous for the explorers who carved their histories. These islands, marked by ancient Eskimo settlements, trappers, and World War history, are covered in cold deserts.
Day 7 - 9, 24 - 26 August 2025: Emperor Franz Joseph Fjord
Three days of sailing to explore the maze of expansive fjords with steep walls—some filled with icebergs, others with plains of musk oxen, and still others adorned with rocks shaped by geological time.
Day 10, 27 August 2025: Ittoqqortoormiit - Scoresby Sund
We’ll navigate through the maze of expansive fjords, characterized by steep walls—some teeming with icebergs and others dotted with musk oxen plains and rocks etched by geological time. We will also visit the Inuit village at the mouth of the world’s largest fjord, Scoresby Sund.
Day 11, 28 August 2025: Depart Constable Pynt
Flying back to Iceland to maximise our time exploring the fjords, we depart from Constable Pynt for a return flight to Reykjavik, Iceland.

Onboard Lectures
Your expedition leaders will host informative lectures on various local topics. These informal lectures will range from the history of the region, to the effects of climate change on the habitats of Arctic wildlife, offering you a greater understanding of the areas you will visit throughout your trip.
This was the perfect trip. Probably the most important thing to us was the quality of the two guides who were among the best we've ever had. Their boundless knowledge, energy, and enthusiasm were key to the success of the trip. We'd go anywhere with them. The Polarfront was the perfect boat for us - it was comfortable but not overly luxurious. The wildlife sightings (polar bears, musk ox, seals, birds) were wonderful!
