Day 1 - Arrive Santiago

Arrive at Santiago Airport, where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Santiago, watched over by the snow-capped Andes, sits in a valley bisected by the Mapocho River. The city was founded by Pedro de Valdivia in 1541.

There is plenty to see and do in this cosmopolitan city which has a distinct European feel. There is something for everyone here: foodies in Bellavista and Providencia, the more bohemian crowd head to Barrio Brazil; there are ample museums scattered around the city and a thriving arts scene to be discovered. The more adventurous may want to head to the stunning Andes that circle the city.

Day 2 - Santiago - San Pedro de Atacama

This morning you take a flight from Santiago to Calama in Northern Chile. After being met at the airport you will be transferred approximately 1hr to San Pedro, an oasis town in the Atacama Desert. Enroute, enjoy stunning scenery of the Salt Mountain Range and the Licancabur Volcano.

Days 3 - 5 - San Pedro de Atacama

Three full days to enjoy the wonders of the Atacama Desert. Each day you can choose from a selection of excursions, all led by your private photography guide, allowing you to capture the rugged terrain of Atacama as you wish with a private 4x4 vehicle.

Chile’s northern reaches are now famous worldwide due to the rescue of the 33 miners from the San Jose mine in Copiapo in August 2010. It is home to the highest and driest desert in the world, the Atacama Desert, and stretches roughly 500 miles from Copiapo to the northern tip of Chile. Flanked by the Andes, it plays host to hot springs, geysers, salt flats and dramatic scenery that has been compared to that of the Moon and Mars and there are parts of the desert where rainfall has never been recorded.

Day 6 - San Pedro de Atacama - Calama - Santiago

Enjoy a final morning excursion with your guide, before returning to the lodge to check out. You’ll then transfer approximately 1hr back to Calama for your flight to Santiago. Upon arrival, you’ll be met and taken to your city centre hotel, located in the bustling neighbourhood.

Wildlife in Chile

With an exceptional variety in geography and climate, few animal species are found throughout the full length of the Chile. In the altiplano you can find llamas, vicunas and alpacas as well as the more commonly spotted guanaco. Guanacos are found in the arid north as well as in southern Patagonia, as are ñandúes, an emu-like land bird, and various species of flamingo. The elusive spotted puma makes his home in the Andes, and although the cat itself is rarely seen, leftovers of its kills are more common. The Andean condor can often be seen soaring high above snow-capped peaks and as the largest flying bird seeing them in action is a truly magnificent spectacle. The southern Patagonia forests also provide habitat for the elusive pudú, the smallest deer in the world, and the huemul a larger deer species.

Day 7 - Santiago - Castro - Chiloe

This morning you will be met and transferred back to Santiago airport for your flight to Castro. Meet your driver upon arrival and transfer approximately 35 minutes to Tierra Chiloe province. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch and a privately guided activity this afternoon.

When to Go

The sheer length of Chile produces some incredible areas and climates. Northern Chile is home to the Atacama Desert which can be accessed all year round. During the winter months of June, July and August the nightly temperatures regularly drop below freezing and is something to be aware of when making plans. Atacama is the driest desert on earth, but it does occasionally rain from November to February. In general it means it can easily be incorporated into your itinerary whenever you plan to travel.

Day 11 - Chiloe - Castro - Santiago

Enjoy your last morning at the lodge. Mid-morning, you will be transferred back to Castro airport for your flight to Santiago. Upon arrival, make your own way to your airport hotel and spend the rest of your day at leisure. The hotel is located a short walking distance from the airport terminal.
