This spectacular two-week luxury adventure takes you into Borneo’s ancient rainforests and along the Kinabatangan River in search of orangutans, proboscis monkeys, mouse deer, wild buffalo and pygmy elephants. Explore Danum Valley, Borneo's primary rainforest, via the canopy walkway and viewpoint. End your journey relaxing on the white-sand beaches of the paradise island Pulau Tiga, and go diving and snorkelling in the surrounding coral gardens.

Day 1 - Arrive Kota Kinabalu

Arrive at Kota Kinabalu International Airport, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel for your overnight stay. That evening if you wish to explore the city, take a visit to Kota Kinabalu’s famous night market where local people sell everything from fresh fish to jewelled hijab brooches.

Day 2 - Kota Kinabalu - Sepilok

You have the morning to relax before being transferred to the airport for your short flight to Sandakan and taken to your accommodation. At dusk, head out to the canopy walkway at the nearby Rainforest Discovery Centre to watch the red giant flying squirrels emerge from their nests.

Day 3 - Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary

Visit the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in time for their morning feed. You then have a tour of the Sun Bear Conservation Centre to learn all about the project to save these adorable bears, the smallest and least known members of the species, whose population is rapidly diminishing.

Day 4 - Sepilok - Kinabatangan River

During the 80 minute boat transfer along the Kinabatangan River, you will witness small local communities at the river's edge, as well as a variety of wildlife. This is the largest gathering of fireflies in all of Malaysia! After dinner, go on a guided night walk in search of nocturnal creatures.

Day 5 - Kinabatangan River Breakfast Cruise

Enjoy a picnic breakfast on your boat on the peaceful waters of Oxbow Lake, surrounded by wildlife. Visit Abai village to see riverside village life and hear about their successful tree planting programme. After lunch, enjoy a boat journey keeping a look out for pygmy elephants.

Day 6 - Kinabatangan River

Rise early and head out on a shared morning river safari to explore a variety of fauna and flora along the banks of the Kinabatangan River. Species to be found include orangutans, proboscis monkeys, tree snakes, crocodiles, monitor lizards, macaques and much more.

Day 7 - Kinabatangan River - Danum Valley

An early check out this morning as you are transferred south to Lahad Datu, then on to your lodge in the renowned Danum Valley. In the afternoon, join one of the fascinating treks taking in the canopy walkway for a close up view of the rainforest.

Days 8 - 9 - Danum Valley

Spend your days with one of the naturalist guides exploring the many nature trails and waterfalls, take a dip in the natural Jacuzzi pool or floating down the Danum River on tubes. In the evening, dine at the lodge, before embarking on an exciting night drive in search of nocturnal animals.

Day 10 - Danum Valley - Lahad Datu - Pulau Tiga

After your dalliance in the jungle, it is now time to retreat to paradise for some well-deserved relaxation surrounded by nature, on the beautiful Pulau Tiga. After lunch, transfer to Lahad Datu for your short flight to Kota Kinabalu, you will be met by your driver and transferred to your resort.

Day 11 - 13 : Borneo Eagle Resort

Enjoy your time at Borneo Eagle Resort by taking part in the myriad activities here, designed to help you reconnect with the natural world. Explore miles of forested trails and ancient ecosystems, practice making local handicrafts, or enjoy yoga and guided meditation.

Day 14 - Pulau Tiga - Kota Kinabalu

After breakfast, transfer by boat back to the jetty, and then a 2.5 hour overland back to Kota Kinabalu for your international flight home.

Starting early in the day, you set out into the jungle before the mist has risen. Trudging through wet soil, peeling back the bright green vegetation as you go, you venture into the wild to search for orangutans. At this time in the morning, these incredibly human-like creatures are setting out in search of breakfast, occasionally daring to come down to the forest floor to pick fallen fruit. It takes expertise and patience to find these mesmerising animals, but your expert guide leads you in the right direction. Before you know it, you are looking straight up at one of these charismatic apes. At home in the treetops, they are comfortable sitting above you feeding on fruit, often just as curious about you as you are about them.
