Tierra Patagonia

This eye-popping hotel has a wonderful architecture that draws your attention straight away, despite the otherworldly Patagonian landscape that surrounds you. Located nestled behind a little bluff on the Patagonian Steppe, Tierra Patagonia is casually luxurious with a stunning interior, akin to that of an elegant ski chalet. There are 40 rooms, featuring a Scandinavian-style design, and some communal spaces that are impossible to draw yourself away from.

On the edge of Torres del Paine National Park, southern Patagonia, the hotel is on the shores of Lake Sarmiento. From Punta Arenas, it takes about 4 hours by car transfer.

Rooms are available as standard, family apartments, superior and suites and are all filled with light, offering stunning views through picture windows. Standard rooms feature a bath tub in the bedroom, superior rooms have a larger bathroom ad family apartments are essentially two superior rooms interconnected, sleeping up to six guests. Suites are over two storeys and have huge floor to ceiling windows to make the most of that view right over the Paine massif. All rooms and suites feature traditional Patagonian details and feature wooden clad walls, giving you that feeling of being in a cosy, homely place, right in the Chilean wilderness. They also all have powerful rain showers. The communal spaces are just as striking as the rooms, with a nice dining area and a sauna and steam room.

Excursions are divided into three difficulty levels (easy, medium and hard), as well as full or half day, so there is something for everyone during your stay. There are half day walks to various areas, including Mirador Cuernos, the Hunters Trail for some great wildlife sightings and Laguna Larga, great for seeing flamingos and the hanging glaciers of French Valley. Full day hikes head out to Pingo Valley and Grey Peninsula, Paso de la Guitarra, Mirador Glacier Grey and French Valley, as well as Cerro Obelisco, Base of the Torres and Cero Guido. Horse rides are available to Estancia Cerro Guido and Estancia Lazo or you can sit back and enjoy scenic half day tours of Laguna Azul, Salto Grande, Valle La Porfiada and Estancia Las Chinas. Full day scenic adventures include Macizo Paine. You can also experience Patagonian life in the Estancia Cerro Guido (a working ranch), and your time there will vary dependent on time of year.

Three meals a day are included and the cuisine is really tasty. The dining area has some larger tables to those in big groups can sit together.
