Marataba Conservation Camps
Marataba, a 21,000-hectare (52,000-acre), privately managed section of the Marakele National Park, is uniquely situated where lush bushveld gives way to the Kalahari sands in South Africa’s Limpopo Province. As a contractual National Park, Marataba is one of South Africa’s most innovative conservation models. From the vision of an iconic president to the unique public-private partnership that exists today, the focus is firmly on protecting the area’s diverse flora and fauna through modern and hands-on conservation practices.
The safaris and activities at Marataba are conservationally focused and is seen within the camps in the area too. There are two camps on the privately-owned area, Founders Camp and Explorers Camp and both are situated near water. Founders camp overlooks the Matlabas river and Explorers cap enjoys views of a prolific waterhole in views of the Waterburg mountain range. Both allow for a unique, conservation-focused, family-friendly safari.
About Founders Camp
Founders Camp overlooks the Matlabas River, which attracts a variety of wildlife. The suites are tucked under the trees and have large decks from which to enjoy the water. At the main area, there are indoor and outdoor dining areas, an interactive kitchen, and a swimming pool.

Founders Camp sleeps up to 8 adults and 2 children (under 15 years): 4 suites with solid wall structures and en-suite bathroom (bath, indoor & outdoor shower, separate toilet, double wash basin), dressing area, indoor and outdoor lounge. Rooms accommodate 2 adults in twin or king configurations plus a maximum of 2 children sharing in either a rollaway bed (under 15 years) or a cot (under 2 years). Main area comprises indoor and outdoor living spaces, interactive kitchen, open bar, outside fire pit and swimming pool. The camp is fenced from wildlife and overlooks a river

There are both indoor and outdoor dining areas and an interactive kitchen.
Activities
All bookings at Marataba Conservation Camps are allocated a private vehicle and guide to offer flexibility around conservation participation. There are day and night game drives available, as well as wild walking, nature walks and transect walks. As the camps are by the water, boating is also available. As there is a focus of conservation at Marataba, there is the opportunity to join in tracking and monitoring key species, camera trap analysis, game census logging, tree planting, and land rehabilitation and rare species monitoring and identification.

Children are welcome, as each suite can accommodate for a cot (under 2 years old) or a rollaway bed (under 15 years old)
About Explorers Camp
Guests at Explorers Camp enjoy views of the Waterberg mountain range, bushveld savannah, and a prolific waterhole both from the tents and from the main area. The large fenced garden, swimming pool, and dedicated family tent make it an ideal choice for families.

Explorer Camp sleeps up to 12 adults and 6 children (under 15 years): 5 canvas tents and 1 canvas family tent each with en-suite bathroom (indoor shower, toilet, double wash basin) and outdoor lounge. Each room accommodates 2 adults in twin or king configuration plus a maximum of 2 children sharing in either a rollaway bed (under 15 years) or a cot (under 2 years). The family tent has a separate children’s room with a double bed and en-suite shower room (shower, basin, toilet) and accommodates 2 adults in twin or king configuration plus 1 extra cot (under 2 years) plus 2 children in the children’s room (under 15 years). Main area comprises indoor and outdoor living spaces, outside fire pit, a large grassed area and swimming pool. The camp is fenced from wildlife and overlooks the Waterberg mountain range, bushveld savanna and a waterhole.
