The Mara River, which originates in the Mau Escarpment of the Great Rift Valley in Kenya, meanders from east to west for about 395 kilometres, passing through Kenya, then Tanzania, draining into Lake Victoria. The Mara is filled with hippo and crocodile, and hosts The Great Migration. Every year between mid-July and November, herds of wildebeest cross, in search of greener pastures.
